The sign in the entrance to a Katherine pub had me intrigued the other day as I wandered past. Perhaps I am the only naive person who thought a hum bug was a lolly and couldn’t understand this… Worth a search if you are naive as well …

I’m still waiting for the charge controllers to turn up and my warmshowers hosts are incredibly generous and happy for me to stay until they show.

Today was a day of checking out some local geocaches. I must say that poking my hand into blind spots to try and find a small hidden container is a very different experience here than NZ and I walked away from a few without a complete check but not bitten either! The most interesting find was a water depth gauge at least 300m away from the Katherine river that I had to ascend a 3m ladder to find. Across the road was a high tide mark from a flood in the ’90’s that attested to the possibility of the need for the gauge at such an improbable place.

This sneaky padlock cache had me stumped for a while before flipping open the bottom 🙂

My second snake encounter came while meandering through bush beside the Katherine river when a rustling behind me caused me to look back and up in a tree I had just passed. After a web search I am pretty sure it was a Common Tree Snake https://www.snakeoutbrisbane.com.au/snake-id/common-tree-snake-dendrelaphis-punctulatus/ Unfortunately it slithered up into the foliage before I could get a photo of it 🙁
