I arrived in Darwin about midday Saturday and a search for “solar” once I found WIFI gave me a few leads to follow to find someone to look at my electrics but they were all closed by the time I could get to them. I stopped at one motor camp and they wanted $82/night which I baulked at and the nice apologetic lady sent me to another camp not too far away that had cheaper sites – $50/night which is still over the odds for anything else I have paid for so far but decided to stay for a couple of nights until I could get someone to look at the bike on Monday.
BUT…
I was put on the last available tent site that was next to a site with multiple motorbikes. I cheekily asked if anyone with that crew was interested in diagnosing my problem and Woody offered his services immediately – yahoo! Armed with a multi-meter we traced where the power was getting lost and to my chagrin found one of the mini Anderson’s that I had on the solar sensor had not been seated properly and had failed when under load. I built this bit prior to my south Island trip a couple of years ago so I discounted this part as a possible failure point as it had been in service for so long. All that angst for a $5 part 🙁
I now consider the camp fees to have been well worth while 🙂
