Autonomy bliss

Staying with Fleur, Arkady and Sheila in Darwin was another great experience. So much knowledge about cycling around Australia and the world. I took advantage of being near a recommended cycle shop and installed a Tannus Armour insert in the back tyre as puncture prevention (hopefully). I also added a couple of bottle cages to the front of the side racks to hold my cooker fuel bottles to get them out of my food or clothes bags.

I didn’t realise the extent of the cycle track when entering Darwin but took full advantage as I left. A 28km dedicated cycle track from the city centre right out to Coolalinga was truly impressive. I didn’t realise that the trail extended out to Adelade river or I might have been tempted to follow it right through.

The ride back to Katherine was perfect – I am back to my autonomous self supported best. The bike is working perfectly with a 180km day easily accomplished a couple of hours before dark. The campsite I chose was on an old section of the road beside a water hole.
Back to my WS hosts Margie and Peter tonight in Katherine then off in the morning toward Kununurra where I hope to spend a couple of days with a workaway farm before continuing down the west coast.
