Mental health break

I just had a fantastic weekend with three of my “kids” packrafting the headwaters of the Mohaka river. Friday afternoon we were dropped at the entrance to Poronui Station and followed the poled route to the head of the Mohaka. It was a great chance to test out some of my gear and to spend seriously quality time with those that I love.
The evening was punctuated with the Sika roaring around us and several other parties in evidence obviously very interested in the deer for other than aesthetic reasons ๐Ÿ˜‰

Walking through Poronui

First time using the Nemo tent

Such a beautiful section to paddle. Only one rapid that we chose to walk (mainly as the flow was too low to make it safe). 37 Blue ducks (Whio) – far more numerous than on previous trips down here.

Camp at the Mangatainoka Hot springs

27 Whio in the lower section and 1 Sika fawn that gazed at us curiously as we floated by.

Huge thanks to Alison for dropping us off and Seamus for picking us up at Pakaututu.
