Croc’s, travellers and dining out

The highlight for me of the last few days has been the appearance of David and Regula – cycle tourists who left Switzerland a couple of years ago. They stayed with us and were invaluable fountains of wisdom about what/where/who and how to go about traversing SE Asia and ‘the ‘stans’.

Friday and Saturday were Katherine show days – not a huge event but mildly interesting watching the show jumping and different exhibitions. The bulk of the event seemed to be the amusement area with rides and all the usual nonsense shoot’m up junk.

I was treated to a sunset dinner cruise through the Katherine gorge by Peter and Margaret last night. The highlight of which was a Crocodile that remained stationary long enough to get a nice picture. There is a nagging feeling that it could have been created from papier mache’ so the tourists like myself could get their money’s worth from the tour… A smaller version made for the water 10 minutes before so there definitely where live ones in the vicinity.

The meal was very nice and they came up with a Shimeji mushroom for me – everyone else had the choice of Crocodile, Kangaroo, Chicken, Beef or Barimundi. The ‘shroom had a meaty texture but wasn’t particularly flavorsome. The rock art we wandered past was way out of reach so either the folk who drew it stood on someone else’s shoulders or there had been quite some rock movement since it was drawn.

I got dressed in my #1’s for the occasion ๐Ÿ™‚

Peter and Margaret took possession of another house in Katherine last week which needs quite some TLC so I have been making myself useful there removing the numerous Louvre windows, cleaning them, lubing the mechanism so they actually open with ease and putting them all back in again. It is an older house – essentially all up on piles as a second story so the air can flow through it and keep it cool.

I am still cooling my heals as the charger that is being sent from NZ still hasn’t appeared here yet ๐Ÿ™
I awoke this morning to find my phone had died overnight. This wasn’t completely unexpected and I had brought another with me just in case so have spent quite some time today getting all the apps I use configured and set up. The “new” phone fits inside the “old” phones mount on the bike – held in place by a couple of light bungy cords so am ready to roll again.

Unfortunately the ferry guys said I was too big to cross to Mandorah and I cannot see too much value in the Jabiru section so will start chasing you down, leaving Darwin tomorrow morning (Wednesday 31). Your blog is very well crafted and a credit to you both.
      Watch your backs … ๐Ÿค
